Top 6 places to visit while in Thailand

Phi Phi Islands

Out of all of the countries we have visited no country has captured our imagination like Thailand. It is a travelers paradise in every sense of the word. It has absolutely everything you could want in cheap, delicious food, incredible scenery, rich culture, amazing weather, and so much more.

Top places to visit

Most travelers will begin their Thailand adventure in the capital city of Bangkok. This is where we first arrived in Thailand and one of the first things we did after overcoming some jet lag was going to the Grand Palace. This is Bangkok’s most famous landmark as it is a giant complex of ornate buildings that formerly was the home of the Thai king for over 150 years. The entrance to the grand palace was 500 Baht ($16USD).

Bangkok is amazing, but there are some other incredible places in Thailand that are even more impressive. One of these places is the city of Ayutthaya. This historic city was founded in 1350 by the Siamese kingdom. The entire city is filled with beautiful palaces, massive statues, incredible temples, and shrines. Ayutthaya is only a 90-minute drive from Bangkok and it is easy to find a tour from Bangkok.

Ayutthaya

After spending a few days in Bangkok and Ayutthaya we decided to fly to a city in southern Thailand called Phuket. Phuket is a beach city where travelers can go to take it easy or use it as a launch point to go to a smaller island or more remote destination. We just stayed one night in Phuket, but we took full advantage of a Hawsome sunset.

Phuket

From Phuket, we got on a ferry that took us to the Phi Phi Islands. This was a place we had been dreaming of going to for many years and it not only met our expectations but exceeded them. Nelly and I love going to the beach and we have been to beaches in Hawaii, Cancun, Bali, Vietnam, Cuba, and many more. The beach at the Phi Phi Islands was the best beach we have ever been to. The white sand was perfect, the water was clean and clear, it wasn’t crowded, and the view!

Phi Phi Islands

Besides enjoying the life-changing beach we have a few recommendations if you decide to go to the Phi Phi Islands. First, make sure you make time to hike to the  Phi Phi Islands viewpoint. It takes about an hour from the beach to get to the top, but it is so worth it. We went about an hour before sunset and were amazed by the beautiful view. Once you reach the viewpoint there are little shops that sell ice cream and drinks, which is really nice because it was very warm.

Another thing you need to do while on the Phi Phi Islands is going on a boat tour to visit the other islands. They are absolutely stunning! The best and most famous beach is Maya Bay. Unfortunately, the beach was closed when we went, so we could only take pictures from the boat, but the beach is supposed to be reopening soon.

Our Experience

Traveling to Thailand for a week was a dream come true. We absolutely loved everything from the beach to the people to the culture and of course the food! Most everything was cheap especially compared to American and European prices. We never felt unsafe and getting around was very easy. Thailand has been our hands-down favorite country that we have ever visited and we are itching for the chance to go back.
